Our Story

     In the 80's Bruce completed a coachbuilding apprenticeship at Caravan Repairs, North Shore. He then went to work on super yachts as a Lloyds certified welder. This progressed to working on teak decks and timber interiors before deciding to start his own coachbuilding workshop. His humble beginnings was in a very small garage under his parents house. It was there where he completed the body restoration of a 1934 Ford coupe and an MG.

     The need for a bigger space meant a move to his first building in Beachhaven. There he carried out many repairs for Newmans’ Coachlines and private customers caravans. As he was just starting out, he did whatever work was available. He painted mates tractors, did wall-covering work on boats and whatever else came his way. Coachbuilding is a very broad trade which meant there was a large variety of work, especially when people came to know how skilled he was.

     During the 90s and early 2000s Bruce built a number of special purpose vehicles from the ground up. Most notably, a dedicated motorhome complete with a full dialysis setup for the Hawkes Bay Kidney Society and two large display caravans, one for the NZ Coastguard and another for the Ministry of Fisheries. He also did a lot of private work including converting buses to luxury motorhomes, custom motorhome builds and repair work.

     Now based in the peaceful surrounds of rural Kumeu, we also carry out many insurance repairs, alterations and additions to caravans and motorhomes. A large part of the work coming in the door is from customers wanting catering vehicles built or modified. The first of these projects was for The Lucky Taco in 2013 and it was very rewarding working to help bring a customers vision to reality. Bruce has completed coffee van conversions, ice-cream caravan conversions and larger truck conversions. Our customers include Good Karma Coffee, Lalele Organic, Storm & India, Wiseboys Burgers, The Hunting Lodge, Ambassadors Expresso, FTP, Lucy’s Icecream, Ramen Takara, Lucky Taco, Mama Tahina and others.
